Funeral services will be held Thursday March 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. David C. Tyson will officiate. A private family interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
Billy was born December 26, 1944 in Albany, GA to the late Charlie Will and Marjorie Grace Melton Tyson. Early in his career he was employed with the Albany Police Department and had been employed with the Roswell Police Department as a 911 Supervisor for the past twenty five years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
As his friend and former colleagues put it: ...."Billy is a true original.....he can lean back in his chair, put his feet up, answer emergency phones, type in call, talk on the radio, tell "war stories" and chew on an unlit cigar without getting rattled. That's a good Dispatcher... " No matter who you are in the world of Public Safety, you have heard of Billy Tyson or talked to him at least once in your career. He would remember you and the conversation many years later.
Survivors include a sister and her husband, Brenda Tyson Cooper and Jim Cooper of Albany, GA, nephews, Marc Cooper and Charlie Cooper of Albany, GA and Martin Cooper and his wife, Jamie of Wooster, OH, his great-nephews, Devon (Albany, GA) and Davis Cooper (Wooster, OH) and his great-nieces, Sydney and Sophie Cooper (Wooster, OH).
