Charles Linton Duren

Charles L. Duren went to be with the Lord on April 26 in Edgewood, Kentucky after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. Todd Sullens will officiate. A private interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville, GA.

Mr. Duren was born in Thomasville, Georgia on January 1, 1928 to Charles and Margaret Duren. He served in the U. S. Marine Corp. and attended seminary in Norman Park, Georgia. In 1953 he moved his growing family to Toledo, Ohio where he worked for General Motors for twenty-four years. In 1980 he transferred to Albany through General Motors to the Delco Remy Plant where he retired in 1987. He served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years at First Baptist Church in Leesburg, Georgia.

Mr. Duren enjoyed gardening, fishing, photography, working picture puzzles, chocolate milkshakes and peanut butter with syrup. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Essie Laura Lewis Duren and their four children; Hugh Duren of Swanton, Ohio; Sharon Croft of Leesburg, Georgia; Glenda Hutchinson of Bedford, Virginia; and Carol Conrad of Union, Kentucky. He is also survived by his only sister, Betty Horace of Ellijay, Georgia, as well as twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

Mr. Duren (Granddaddy) loved his Lord and will be missed by his family.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
