Carroll C. Givens, 71, of Newton, GA died Monday, March 16, 2015 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 20, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Rouse and Donnie Phillips will officiate. Interment will follow at Travelers Rest Church Cemetery in Baker County. Wayne Poole, Bobby Baxley, Rusty Muliford, David Hart, Gene Phillips, Stewart Preston and Mike Bivens will service as active pallbearers.

A native of Elmodel, GA, Carroll was born to the late George and Laverne Holt Givens and he had resided most of his life in Baker County, GA. Carroll was a retired building contractor and the former owner of Carroll C. Givens Construction. He was also the former owner of Catfish Carroll's Restaurant in Newton, GA. Carroll was the President of the L.D. Club, he loved to fish, coon hunt and play softball. He was also famously known for his navigation of the Ichawaynochaway Creek on his homemade barge with a goat, a bale of cotton and two passengers.

Survivors include his two daughters, Lynn Phillips and her husband, Allan of Newton, GA and Shanna Givens Feaster and her husband, Bill of Pensacola, FL, a son Brandon Givens of Bainbridge, GA, three sisters, Janie Givens Kelley of Baker County, GA, Myrtice McKinnon and her husband, Lloyd of Lee County, GA and Susan Dollar of Albany, GA, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Carroll was preceded in death by his son, Todd Givens.

The family will be at the home of Lynn and Allan Phillips at 981 Milford Road, Leary, GA 39862.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
