Brother Donny G. Nix, 72, of Albany, GA, died February 24, 2024 at Tift Regional Health Care. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 1, 2024 at 11:00 am at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Randolph Pate will officiate. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery.
Donny was born in Butler, AL on December 9, 1951 to Hugo and Beatrice Nix. He grew up in Melvin, AL and graduated from Choctaw County High School in 1968. Donny joined the United States Navy and was stationed at Albany, GA. He married his first wife, Delores LaRue in 1971. After his discharge, he was employed with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company until it’s closure.
Donny was employed with The Marine Corps Logistic Base for thirty-one years. During that time, he was a bi-vocational minister and served Kinchafoonee Baptist Church, Faith Community Fellowship Church and Wright’s Chapel Church. Donny was a member and Deacon at Union Baptist Church in Worth County. He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. In addition to his parents, Donny was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores Nix.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Nix, his children, Sean (Cindy) Nix, a daughter, Michelle (Rick) McMullen and Roger Carlton all of Albany, GA, his step-children, Seth (Zen) Frye of Worth County, GA and Kyle (Melissa) Gray of Tifton, GA, his brothers, Kenny Wayne (Angie) Nix and Clifford Nix all of Melvin, AL, his grandchildren, Adam (Kristin) Nix, Kaylan (Bruce) Johnson, Dakota (Joe) Epps, Tristan (Makayla) Epps, Carly Burton, Stage (Tatum) Collins, Garrett Burton, Brandon Collins and Nick Frye and his great-grandchildren, Grayson McCall, Sophie McCall, Logan McMullen, Kason Johnson, Weston Epps, Harlan Collins and Noah Nix.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Mathews Funeral Home.
