Billy Gene Turner, 77, of Cochran, GA formerly of Albany, GA, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Bleckley Memorial Hospital in Cochran, GA. Funeral services will be held at Mathews Funeral Home on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Pastor Ralph Horne will officiate. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Born June 24, 1938 in Steele, MO, he was the son of the late W.C. and Maggie Turner. He grew up primarily in Bakersfield, CA and relocated to Albany in the early 1970's. He and his father owned the old Texaco service station at the corner of Slappey and Gordon in Albany. He was later employed with Guardsmark Security at MillerCoors for 16 years and provided lawn care services part-time. In 1995, he decided to focus his attention full-time on his lawn care service and continued until 2015. He was a member of the Liberty Parkway Church of God
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Torri Turner and Jennifer Mulford.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Turner, three sons, Brad Turner of Virginia Beach, VA, Mike Cumbie (Sue), Rick Cumbie (Daurie), all of Cochran, GA. Three daughters Joann Brown (Chris) of Byron, GA, Nanette Murphy (Randy) of Albany, IN, and Valerie McCurdy (Ted) of Bakersfield, CA, two brothers, William Turner (Nell) of Albany, GA and Robert Turner (Donna) of Hertford, NC, four sisters, Doris Shiver of Somerville, TN, Gloria Meredith (Larry) of Somerville, TN, Evelyn Corbin of Trenton, FL and Helen Durham (Dan) of New Port Richey, FL, fourteen grandchildren, twelve great grand-children, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
