Billy D. Hines, 85, of Albany, GA, died December 1, 2015 at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville, GA. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Roy Cook will officiate. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at Oaknoll Cemetery in Rome, GA. Rev. Reginald Campbell will officiate.
A native of Rome, GA, Mr. Hines graduated from McHenry High School and joined the United States Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer and graduated from The Kentucky School of Embalming in 1958.
Mr. Hines moved to Albany, GA in 1967 from Rome, GA to join Oaklawn Chapel Funeral Home. At forty years of age he went to work for Southern Railway and retired in 1995. Mr. Hines was a member of Gillionville Baptist Church, the Micah Sunday School Class and The Academy of Graduate Embalmers where he received the Forty Year Achievement Award.
Survivors include his wife, Doris W. Hines of Albany, GA, two sons and their wives, Dan and Leanne Hines of Augusta, GA and Stephen and Karrie Hines of Sarasota, FL and a granddaughter and her husband, Hilary and Eric Gauvin of Fort Walton Beach, FL.
