Billy J. Brown, 80, of Albany, GA, died Sunday, February 19, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 am at Mathews Funeral Home. Mr. Ross Powell will officiate. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery.
Born in Briceville, TN, to the late Franklin and Martha Brown, Mr. Brown had resided in the Albany area most of his adult life. He was a true horseman and competed in numerous events over the years. Mr. Brown was a truck driver for forty nine years and retired from Southern Ag Carriers.
After his retirement, he studied and mastered the art of Ventriloquism. As he would say, I am the big dummy and Joe Camel and Dr. Moody were the little dummies. Mr. Brown performed at venues such as fairs, carnivals, nursing homes, The Plains Peanut Festival and on The Sam Shortline Railroad.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Angela Easters, a brother James Brown, and two sisters Mary Holley and Duckey Godwin,
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Phillips of Brooklet, GA, his sons, Ben Brown of Daisey, GA, Joey Brown and his wife, Lynn of Mifflin, PA, Billy Brown and wife, Amy of Windsor, VA, Tommy Brown and wife, Melissa of Moulton, AL, and Cecil Brown of Morgan, GA, three sisters Nancy Ziemeckie and her husband, Ray, Betty Mathis, and Francis Brown all of Albany, GA, eighteen grandchildren and twenty two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at Mathews Funeral Home.
