Betty Ann Whitaker Scott

Betty Ann Whitaker Scott, 79, of Albany, GA, died April 4, 2025 at her residence. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Crown Hill Cemetery. Hal Pinson will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday at Mathews Funeral Home from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm.

Betty was born on July 7th,1945, to Garnie Eugene and Amelia Kelley Whitaker in Colquitt, GA. Betty was the 3rd of 4 children, the youngest girl. In 1961 the family moved from Colquitt to Albany. Betty attended Dougherty High School after moving to Albany. After high school Betty began working at Albany Drug Store. Albany Drug Store was a family-owned Local drug store where many families in the area shopped. One of her customers turned out to be her future husband. Betty and Douglas met at Albany Drug Store and married in 1966. Betty continued to work until they had their first child. At that time Betty became a full-time mom and homemaker. Although she had not been able to for some time, Betty was quite the cook and baker. Her dad loved her coconut cake and would Look forward to her making him one from time to time.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Garnie and Amelia Whitaker, her husband of 54 years Douglas Allen Scott, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Mary Scott. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Shippey and Margaret Creel and their spouses.

Betty is survived by her children, Stacey DeMarino and her husband Mike and Kathy Broome. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elicia Jackson, Anthony DeMarino (Holly) and Alyssa Sans (Caleb). Betty also has 3 great-grandchildren, Christopher Belk, Cayden Draper and Carson Draper. She is also survived by her brother Billy Whitaker and his wife Amy and her brother-in-law Lamar Scott and his wife Kay Scott. There are many, many nieces and nephews that she leaves behind as well.
