Betty Jean Tucker

Betty Jean Tucker, 79, of Baconton, Ga, died January 17, 2023 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Thomas Morey will officiate.  The family will receive friends following the service.

Mrs. Tucker was born on April 21, 1943 in Cartersville, GA to Thurmond and Maude Wells.  The family moved to Americus, GA when she was 13 years old and then to Smithville, GA.  She met James Tucker in Albany, GA and they married when she was 16 years old.

Mrs. Tucker was a wife, mother and wonderful cook.  She was a member of Dawson Road Church of Christ and enjoyed taking care of her family, sewing and being with her grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Montgomery, her husband, James E. Tucker, Sr and two sons, Mike Tucker and Allen Tucker.  She was also preceded in death by five brothers James Pruiett, Renon Pruiett, Eval Pruiett, Edward Wells and Charles Wells and three sisters JoAnn Collins, Carol Byrd and Eloise Crook.

Survivors include her children, James E. (Diane) Tucker, Jr. of Anderson, SC, Glen Tucker of Albany, GA, Travis Tucker and Sheila (Clay) Hardy of Baconton, GA, her grandchildren, James Tucker of Albany, GA and Joshua Tucker and Cory Tucker of Valdosta, GA, Ashley Daniels of Simpsonville, SC, Heather Smith of Tallahassee, GA, Allison Potts of Atlanta, GA, Jessie Hardy of Lee County, GA, Jarred Tucker of Lakeland, FL, Joseph Moree of Albany, GA and Johnathan Moree of Dothan, AL.
