Betty Jean Spindle

Betty J. Spindle, 86, of Albany, GA, died Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at 10:00 A.M. at Mathews Funeral Home.  Rev. Shane Taylor will officiate. Bradley Spindle, Brantley, Freddie Askew, Everett Morton, Raymond Wiley and Jeff Johnson will serve as honorary pallbearers.  Interment will follow at Floral Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Spindle was born on December 18, 1931 in Soperton, GA to the late Arlie and Mamie Lou Greenway.  Her family moved to Albany, GA in the late 1930’s and was a graduate of Albany High School.  After High School, Mrs. Spindle was employed with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital as a L.P.N. until she met her late husband, Benjamin Stewart Spindle, Sr. while he was stationed at Turner Air Force Base.

They married December 23, 1950 and she traveled extensively with him on tours of duty including Japan and Hawaii.  After retirement from the Air Force they moved to Lee County, GA in 1968 and remained there until deteriorating health forced her to move to Wynfield Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was a religious and loving parent, wife and grandmother and loved cooking for and attending family reunions. She also had an excellent sense of humor, was a large Elvis Presley fan and enjoyed collecting anything Elvis.  She was a faithful and active member of Thundering Springs Baptist Church and will be greatly missed.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Peggy Sisk Greenway.

Survivors include her sons, Ben Spindle, Jr. and his wife, Lynn of Lee County,GA., and Guy Spindle and his wife, Jan of Albany, GA, three grandchildren, Bradley Spindle and his wife, Valerie of Albany, GA., Megan Spindle of Sylvester, GA., and Brantley Spindle and his wife Kelley of Albany, GA., three great-grandchildren, Kyley Faith Spindle, Everett Morton and Annabelle Morton, several very special nieces and nephews and many friends.                   

The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 13^th at Mathews Funeral Home from 6:00 till 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Thundering Springs Baptist Church or The American Cancer Society.
