Betty C. Hammac Prevatte

Betty was born in Pensacola, FL to William Charles and Ella Mae Hammac on November 17, 1944.  She grew up there and graduated from Escambia High School.  While working at a Dry Cleaners who served Military Personal, she met her future husband, James Annis Prevatte.  James was very persistent, and she finally agreed to go out with him, they fell in love and married in 1964.

Betty became a Navy wife and traveled the world for 19 years until James retired and they returned to Albany, GA in 1983.  While in Albany, she was a member of Dawson Road Church of Christ and was a volunteer at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.  She was employed at various Navy Federal Credit Unions during her Military Travels and was a rural mail carrier for the USPS for eighteen years where she received awards for training and driving instructor before her retirement.  She was also an accomplished floral arranger for several weddings and events for family and friends over the years.  She passed on her love of cooking, home making, and gardening to her children and enjoyed reading to her grand children.  

The family will receive friends Friday, January 5, 2024 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
