Betty Singletary Newsome

Betty Singletary Newsome, 84, of Georgetown, GA, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2017 at Southwest Georgia Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at Sunnyside City Cemetery in Cordele, GA. Rev. J.T. Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.

Betty enjoyed the places around where she lived from Cordele to Georgetown. Everyone that knew mom knew that she loved her sports and had better not talk negative about her New York Yankees. After having three athletic daughters, she had nine athletic grandchildren. Quite a few officials learned her name from experience. Her family knew her as the best mother and grandmother anywhere.

Survivors include her husband Pete Newsome of Georgetown, GA, three daughters Delilah Stegall and her husband Ed of Abbeville, AL, Dencie Etheridge and husband Wilbur of Leary, GA, and Decarlo Wilkerson and her husband Donnie of Dickey, GA, a sister Bobbie Hutto of Statesboro, GA, grandchildren Stephanie Etheridge of Leary, GA, Dana Cadenhead of Omaha, GA, Tara Culpepper of Sumner, GA, Fred Lee of Albany, GA, Regina Carter of Perry, GA, Jennifer Cox of Donalsonville, GA, Don Wilkerson of Blakely, GA, Danielle Wilkerson of Valdosta, GA, and Alden Stegall of Leesburg, GA, and nine great grandchildren.
