Betty Scott Frazer of Albany, GA, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at her residence. Memorial services will be conducted Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Dr. William D. (Biff) Coker will officiate.

Born in Jacksonville, FL, Mrs. Frazer had resided in the Albany area since 1956 and in the city of Albany, GA since 1961. Mrs. Frazer was a "Renaissance Woman" with many varied interests and talents. She loved to study history, was an excellent cook and hostess, and was incredibly creative, practicing art in multiple mediums. Mrs. Frazer was also an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church and taught adult and youth Sunday School classes for most of her adult life.

While raising her children, Mrs. Frazer was active in church and civic activities, as well as pursuing her college education. Mrs. Frazer participated in the League of Women Voters from 1957 - 1973, serving as the Local President and on the State Board for nine years. She was appointed to the Government Study Commission 1972-3 and acted as Chairman of the sub-committee on Public Safety. In 1972 then Governor Jimmy Carter appointed Mrs. Frazer to the State Crime Commission and Governor George Busbee re-appointed her, so she served nearly eleven years on the Commission. She was a member of the Junior Women's Club of Albany from 1959 - 1967; a charter member and developer of the Community Organization for Drug Abuse Control, Albany, Georgia; a member of the Southwest Georgia Council on Aging serving as Secretary to the Executive Board 1967 - 78 and Board Member 1980; and Editor of the Southwest Georgia Arts Council Newsletter 1978 - 80.

Mrs. Frazer graduated from Albany Junior College, then received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1980 from Georgia Southwestern University. In 1981 she entered Mercer Law School and received her Juris Doctorate in 1984. Mrs. Frazer worked as an Associate with Hodges and Erwin before campaigning for Dougherty County District Attorney. Following the campaign Mrs. Frazer practiced law focusing on domestic abuse and pro bono criminal defense for nearly fifteen years.

Survivors include her husband, Eley C. Frazer, III, Albany, GA, a son, E. Dantzler Frazer (Dale), West Point, GA, two daughters, Dr. Connie G. Frazer, Phd, Troy, NY, Miriam F. Howard (David), Leesburg, GA, a brother, Jimmy Scott, Thomasville, GA, two sisters, Mary Frances Barineau, Tallahassee, FL, Barbara Gouner, Nevarre, FL, seven grandchildren, Jimmy H. Frazer, David S. Frazer, Emily M. Brown, Ben F. Rawlins, Alexandra B. Frazer, Sarah Elizabeth Frazer and Scott B. Frazer.

The family would like to acknowledge and express deep gratitude to Mrs. Frazer's caregivers, Tessi Pickett, Brenda Musgrove, Pam Klias, Belle Pickett, and Valerie Pickett.

The family will receive friends following the services at the church. In lieu of flowers donate to Albany Community Hospice, Willson Hospice House, or Liberty House would be greatly appreciated.
