Betty Joyce Bruner

Betty Joyce Bruner, 90, of Leesburg, GA passed away peacefully at her residence with her daughters by her side, Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, June 22 at 1:00 pm at Philema Road Baptist Church. Rev. Aaron McCulley and Rev. Wesley Bruner will officiate. Visitation will be at 12:00 pm prior to the service.

Born March 10, 1934, in Blackfoot, Idaho, the daughter of George E. and Ethel H. Hutchison.  She was raised and educated in Blackfoot and La Grande, Oregon.  She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-55, where she was a radio operator for the 3201st Boat Squadron and was the first-baseman for the Elginettes fast-pitch softball team and where she met the love of her life and husband of 60 years, Robert (Bobby). 

After their service in the military, they resided in Edison, Americus and Cairo, Georgia before settling in Lee County in 1960.   

She received an Accounting Associate’s degree from Albany Technical College, but chose to be a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and sister-in-love, and grandmother.  She loved her summer garden, family camping trips, family cross-country trips to visit family and RV life and fishing when Robert retired. She loved reading, sewing, embroidering, crocheting, and supporting her children’s many activities and hobbies.  Their yard was always filled with neighborhood children enjoying outdoor activities.  She was a member of Philema Road Baptist Church and the Happy Campers Sunday School class. 

She is preceded in death by husband, Robert E. Bruner, Sr, and a brother George J. Hutchison. Survivors include a son, Robert E. Bruner, Jr. of Leesburg, Ga. two daughters Debbie Bruner and Patty Bruner of Leesburg, Ga. 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, a brother Denny Magden (Sharon) of McMinnville, Oregon, numerous nieces and nephews and two very beloved sisters-in-laws, Laura Bruner of Leesburg and Charlene Smith (Larry) of Buford, Ga.
