Bennie F. (Ben) Hatcher, Jr., 46, of Plains, GA, formerly of Albany, GA died Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Knight, Rev. Rufus Williams and Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery.

A native of Albany, GA, Ben graduated from Dougherty High School in 1985 with Governor's Honors. He graduated from Southeastern Bible College in Lakeland, FL where he received a Bachelor Degree in Theology and received his Masters Degree from Western Governor's University.

Ben taught computer science at Orange Park Christian Academy in Jacksonville, FL for eight years, he was the IT tech for IT Ministries at Abundant Life Christian Center in Margate, FL for twelve years and was the owner of Alpha Capital Enterprise, Inc. He grew up in Sunnyside Baptist Church and was a current member of The Commons Church.

Survivors include his mother, Patricia Gardner Burk and her husband, Paul of Albany, GA, a brother, Shane Akins of Rome, GA, two sisters, Kristie Martin of Leesburg, GA and Kimberlie Burk and her husband, Mike of San Francisco, CA, a step-sister, Cindy Burk of Leesburg, GA and a step-brother, Tim Burk of San Francisco, CA. He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie F. Hatcher, Sr. and a step-brother, Paul Scott Burk. Survivors include David Eugene Akins of Rome, GA.

The family is at the residence of Pat and Paul Burk.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Mathews Funeral Home.
