Ben Sawyer, Jr., 80, of Morgan, GA, died Monday, February 20, 2017 at Miller County Hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Morgan Methodist Cemetery. Rev. Chris Holdorf, Rev. David Crowdis, and Rev. Bobby Hall will officiate.
A native of Randolph County, GA, Mr. Sawyer grew up in Calhoun County. He was a graduate of Morgan High School and served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Sawyer retired after twenty-six years as the owner-operator of Ben Sawyer Logging. He was a member of the Enterprise Baptist Church in Edison and attended the Adult Sunday School.
Survivors include his wife, Myra Ferguson Sawyer of Morgan, GA, a son, Tim Sawyer and his wife, Kim of Clarksville, TN, two daughters, Wanda Prater and Gale Taylor both of Morgan, GA, his sisters, Delores Carnley of Graceville, FL, Barbara Jean Blanchard and her husband, Herbert of Albany, GA, and Kaye Ragan and her husband, Sambo of Carnegie, GA, a brother, Walter Sawyer of Baker County, GA, five grandchildren, Caitlyn Jackson and her husband, Jason of Cuthbert, GA, Lindsey Bentley and her husband, Nik of Jacksonville, NC, Mackenzie Sawyer and Anna Sawyer both of Clarksville, TN, Christopher Prater and his wife, Maegan of Morgan, GA, and one great grandchild, Sawyer Jackson.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
