Barbara Delores Watson

Barbara Porter Watson, 87, of Valdosta, GA, formerly of Albany, GA, died February 7, 2024 at The Canopy in Valdosta, GA.  Funeral services will be held Friday, February 9, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.  Mr. Ross Powell will officiate.  Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Barbara was born in Hot Springs, AR on October 1, 1936 to Charles and Daisy Porter.  She was raised in Little Rock, AR and graduated from Little Rock Central High School.  She moved to Miami, FL where she met and married Talmage Watson.  They moved to Venus, FL in 1958 where he was employed with the Graham Family.

In 1972 they moved to Albany, GA where Barbara was employed with Town and Country Realty and then was a partner with Continental Realty and Land Company. Later in her career she owned and operated DeerLand Properties, LLC.  Barbara moved to Valdosta, GA three years ago to be closer to her son and family.  She was a member of Gillionville Baptist Church. 

Barbara enjoyed the outdoors and was excellent at hunting and fishing. As an avid Auburn University fan, she rarely missed a game. 

Barbara was a well-respected real estate broker, known throughout Southwest Georgia. She was an expert on Real Estate law, land and farms and was often sought out as a resource.  She served on the Albany Board of Realtors for many years, including Realtor of the Year and President of the Board.  Additionally, Barbara was extremely active on the Georgia Association of Realtors, and served on various statewide committees over her years and as the Regional Director for the local district. Barbara's support and commitment to one of GAR's presidents, Ann Gaunt, was recognized by receiving the GAR President's award.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Talmage Watson. 

Survivors include her son, Bruce (Darlene) Watson and her granddaughter, Whitney Watson all of Valdosta, GA and a brother, Charles (Sue) Porter of Tampa, FL. 

The family will receive friends Friday from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
