Barbara Mercer Cassity

Barbara Mercer Cassity, 87, of Albany, GA, passed away, December 17, 2024 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. No services will be held at this time.

Barbara was born on October 26, 1937 in Kingsport, TN to William and Myrtle Mercer. She grew up there and graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School. Barbara attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. There she met Ed Cassity and became a military wife, moving from station to station with her growing family. She and Ed returned to Albany, GA, the last station, and made it their permanent home. 

Survivors include her husband, Major General James Edward Cassity (USMC Ret.) of Albany, GA, her children, Deborah (Glenn) Zuern of Albany, GA, Mark (Anne) Cassity of Greensboro, NC, Lori (Mike Homer) Cassity of Marietta, GA, her grandchildren, Liza Cassity (Nate) Goselin of Brooklyn, NY, Lydia Evers (Cole, preceded in death) and Anna (Ivan Manuel) Gabarri all of Albany, GA, Molly Cassity of Brooklyn, NY, Mercer Murphy of Atlanta, GA, Sarah Nell Zuern of Atlanta, GA, Sgt. Aiden (Madison) Murphy, USMC of Buford, SC and Liam Murphy of Marietta, GA, her great grandchildren, Carolyn Lou Evers of Albany, GA and Sloane Cassity Goselin of Brooklyn, NY. Siblings, Margaret Bays of Kingsport, TN, Beulah Ferguson of Blountville, TN, Joe Mercer of Hickory, NC.
