Arthur E. (Art) Whetstine (USAF, Ret)

Arthur E. (Art) Whetstine,(MSGT, USAF retired) 76, of Albany, GA, died January 29, 2016 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be held Monday at 2:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Father Thomas Raines will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. The United States Air Force will provide Military Honors and Tri-County Memorial Club will provide Masonic Rites.

A native of Wing, NC, Mr. Whetstine graduated from Bowman High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in Korea and during Vietnam and retired in 1977 after twenty years of service. After his retirement he was employed with the Marine Corps Logistic Base as a Pipe Fitter and retired after twenty two years.

Mr. Whetstine was a member of Dougherty Lodge # 591 F&AM, Hasan Shrine Center where he drove children and their parents to Shriners Hospitals For Children and also served on the Cooking Committee from 1996 to 2010. He was a member of St. Alban's Anglin Catholic Church and The Loyal Order of The Moose # 1285.

Survivors include his children, Mary Anne Adkins of Sylvester, GA, William (Bill) Whetstine of Albany, GA and John Edward Whetstine and his wife, Kim of Dacula, GA, his grandchildren, Leslie Douglas and her husband, Wayde and Joseph Adkins and his wife, Michelle all of Sylvester, GA and Bryan Whetstine and Andrew Whetstine both of Dacula, GA, his siblings, Jenny Worley of Granite Falls, NC, Howard Whetstine of Clalyton, NC, Louise Smith of Malakoff, TX and Franklin Whetstine and his wife, Mildred of Chandler, NC.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Mathews Funeral Home.

The family is at the residence of Mary Adkins, 138 Shady Lane, Sylvester, GA, 31791.
