A tribute to our Buddy
Arthur Boland Lindler III, 64, died, Friday September 26, 2014. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11:00 am at Leesburg Cemetery, Leesburg, GA. Rev. Freeman G. Cross, Jr. will officiate.
Buddy was born in Columbia, SC on December 1, 1949 to Arthur and Emily Lindler.
Buddy spent his youthful summers at his grandmother's in the countryside near Leesburg, Georgia, lifeguarding at the Leesburg Pool, swimming in Kinchafoonee Creek, and catching snakes alongside his cousin, Wilfred (Tiger) Rivers, where he developed a tremendous and lifelong love for the water and outdoors.
Buddy served in the Navy on the destroyer USS Charles F. Adams from 1970 to 1974 and had recently reconnected with some of his old Navy friends. He was proud and excited that his old ship is to be turned into a maritime museum in Jacksonville, Florida.
Buddy graduated from Clemson University, South Carolina in 1977 and moved to Melbourne, Florida soon after to become a computer engineer at Harris.
Buddy loved SCUBA diving in south Florida and the Caribbean and spent much of his time doing so. He taught SCUBA for many years in Melbourne, Florida, equally dogmatic about his student's safety and having fun. He shared his love for this sport and the ocean with many, retiring as a PADI Course Director.
Buddy relished time spent at his family's cabin in Montreat, North Carolina where he strived to spend several weeks each year from the time he was a small boy. He aspired to hike the many miles of trails on each and every trip, gladly sharing his knowledge of the area with fellow hikers. Shortly before his passing, he was hiking the trails again, even after losing part of a lung in 2013, conquering once again Greybeard Mountain at over 6000 feet.
Buddy was devoted to family and spent many of his later years caring for his aging parents. He always put the needs of his family and friends above his own.
Buddy is survived by his mother Emily Lindler of Palm Bay, Florida; sisters Louise Jenkins of Ponte Vedra, Florida and Trudy Lindler of Gainesville, Florida; nephew Keith Jenkins of San Diego, California; and longtime companion Colleen Lindler of Palm Bay, Florida; and his beloved Papillion, "Bijou". He was predeceased by his father Arthur Lindler.
We love and we're going to miss you, Buddy.
