Arrell “Elizabeth” Foxworth, 90, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Chris Turner will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery, Albany, GA.
She was born to Odell and Hillie Hodges on September 2, 1927 in Berrien County, GA. Elizabeth married Raymond Foxworth in 1943. Raymond joined the Air Force in 1947 and they spent the next twenty two years as a military family living in several states and Germany. In addition to raising four children and managing the household alone whenever Raymond was deployed, Elizabeth volunteered with the Air Force Community Service and the Protestant Women of the Chapel. During their years in Germany, they belonged to a square dance club and traveled around Europe for square dancing events.
When Raymond retired from the Air Force, the couple moved to Albany. Elizabeth worked for Rosenberg’s Department Store for several years. She was an active member of Lighthouse Ministries. She was very talented with fabric arts such as knitting, crocheting and sewing. She also enjoyed cooking, cake decorating and gardening. Elizabeth was very devoted to her family and loved family gatherings. She enjoyed reminiscing and sharing family stories from the past. She was also an animal lover who cared for many dogs and cats during her lifetime.
Elizabeth and Raymond were married for seventy years prior to his death in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Harold Davidson, John Henry Hodges, James Hodges, and Donald Hodges, sisters Evelyn Johnson and Effie Lee Foxworth and grandson Ray Foxworth. She is survived by a brother B.F. (Elaine) Hodges, Lee Co., GA and a sister Jean (Elio) Fernandez, Worth Co., GA. She is also survived by her sons Raymond Jr. (Jeanette) of Albany, GA, Wayne (Linda) of St. Maries, ID, Russell (Jeanne) of Baconton, GA and daughter Sandra (Steve) Clark, West Monroe, LA. She leaves nine grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
