Anthony Monfort (Tony) Bruner, 90, of Lee Co., GA died Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 25, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Byne Memorial Baptist Church. Rev. Kerry Reeves and Rev. Moses Clark will officiate. Interment will follow in Thundering Springs Cemetery, Lee Co., GA.
Born in Clay Co., GA, the eighth of twelve children to Charles Anthony and Birdie Mae Monfort Bruner, Mr. Bruner served in the U.S. Air Force and then moved with his wife, Marthanne Stocks Bruner, to the Stocks family farm in Redbone, Lee County, GA. He worked as an agent for Eastern Airlines at the Albany airport for twenty plus years. When Eastern Airlines left Albany he worked for a period of time with Southern Airways.
He then retired to the farm and raised cows and hogs and planted large vegetable gardens to share with his friends and family. Mr. Bruner was elected to the Lee County Commission in 1968 and served until 1988. He became Vice Chairman in 1974 and again in 1978. From 1980 to 1988 he served as chairman of the commission. He served as a deacon at Byne Memorial Baptist Church for many years and participated in a number of mission trips and other ministries there. He cared for the love of his life, his wife Marthanne, until her death in 2011. He was a true lover of animals, any kind – racoons, an alligator named Allie, chickens and numerous stray and rescued dogs.
Survivors include his children, Amanda Bruner McRee, Albany, GA, Edward Anthony Bruner and his wife Kim, Powder Springs, GA, Kelly Bruner Moore, Lee Co., GA, a brother, Frank Bruner, Albany, GA, a sister, Charlene Bruner Smith, Buford, GA, his grandchildren, Ry McRee, Smithville, GA, Greta Austin, Albany, GA, Mandy Anderson, Alexandria, VA, Jessica Bruner, Dallas, GA, Eric Bruner, Dallas , GA, Colby Moore, Midwest City, OK, Jetta Rose Griffin, Albany, GA, fourteen great-grandchildren and almost fifteen.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
