Alvin David (A.D.) Shealy, Sr., 95, of Adel, GA, died September 1, 2013 at Dawson Health and Rehabilitation Center. His remains have been cremated and will be interred next to his wife at Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery in Adel, GA. There will be a celebration of life in his honor at a later date.
A native of Bainbridge, GA, Mr. Shealy was a United States Air Corps Veteran serving in World War II. At the beginning of the war, he helped build and launch 62 liberty ships that transported troops and supplies to the battle grounds. He used to laugh about building the ships and having to sail on them after being drafted. He moved his family to Adel, GA in 1948 and established Shealy Lumber Co. After 25 years in business, he went to work for Weyerhaeuser Corp. where he retired. After retirement he became an avid fisherman and gardener, always wanting to share his catch and vegetables with family and friends. Everyone he ever met was considered his friend, and he had many of them.
Mr. Shealy was a member of the Adel United Methodist Church and attended the First Assembly of God in Adel, GA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Tanksley Shealy, a son, Alvin D. (Sonny) Shealy, Jr., a daughter, Betty Ann Shealy and a grandson, David Keith Shealy.
