Allene “Ali” Johnson Dunn, formerly of Albany, died Monday, Nov.4, 2024. Born in Wrightsville, GA., Mrs. Dunn was the daughter of the late Rev. David Ald and Trudie Bell Price. She was the youngest of ten children, and during her childhood, lived in several Georgia towns for her Father’s assignments as a Methodist minister. Mrs. Dunn attended Warwick High School where she was a standout basketball player.
She married her high school sweetheart, Glenn Hobby, and together, they worked to put each other through college, while starting a family. She graduated from Ga. Southwestern College in Americus with a Master’s degree in education and began her career as a teacher. She taught for many years at Worth County High School, and enjoyed working with students in Tri-Hi-Y and other school clubs.
She later moved to Albany where she was a beloved English teacher at Albany High School and Darton College. Her vivacious personality and fun-loving nature made her a favorite among her students.
In her young adult years, as the wife of a Baptist minister, she enjoyed her role as pianist at several Worth County churches they served. After she moved to Albany, she returned to her Methodist roots, and joined First United Methodist Church of Albany.
In 2006, she married Darell Dunn, and they enjoying traveling the world. She was thrilled to visit so many of the places she had studied and taught her students about. She and Darell eventually retired to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL where they built lasting friendships through community volunteer work and their new church home, Ponte Vedra United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Darell, siblings Roy, Gladys, Earl, Thelma, Vennie, Buddy, Margaret and Edward, and her previous husband, Herbert Lee Johnson.
She is survived by daughters Dawn (Russ) Still and Shari (Phil) Cawley, grandson Chris (Jamie) Tripp, great-granddaughters Emery and Piper Tripp, brother Clyde Price, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Walden Chapel at First United Methodist Church of Albany. Rev. Jim Morrow will officiate.
