Alfred W Dunkley

Alfred W. Dunkley, 75, of Lee County died Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. His memorial service will be Thursday 11 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Bruce English will officiate.

Alfred was born and raised in Roxboro, Person County, NC where he worked on the family farm. He was the oldest of three sons of Eliza & Cleo Dunkley. He attended technical college in Burlington, NC for two years. He was married in 1965 to the former Brenda Bradsher. The same year he joined the Naval Seabees and did two tours of duty in Vietnam. After the Navy, he joined CP & L in Roxboro, NC and worked there for twelve years.

In 1979, he moved his family to Albany, GA to work at Miller Brewing for twenty-five years and then retired to enjoy his favorite hobby, fishing and spending time with his family. Alfred was a devoted husband and father. He will always be loved and cherished by his family.

He was preceded in death by parents and a brother Malcolm “Mac” Dunkley.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda B. Dunkley, Lee County, daughter, Lori Dunkley Daniell (Greg), Lee County, sons, Al Dunkley, Jr., Worth County, John Dunkley, Sasser, grandchildren, Emma Dunkley, Dean Dunkley, Holly Daniell, Blake Daniell, Britten Dunkley, great grandchildren Lakelyn and Peyton, brother Bill Dunkley (Angela), Roxboro, NC, sister in law Deborah Walsh (Bruce), Roxboro, NC, an aunt, Mary Jones, Roxboro, NC, and a host of extended family.

The family will receive friends Thursday 10 AM until funeral hour.
